About location QR codes

A location code holds a geo link with a latitude and longitude. Scanning it opens the phone’s map app centred on that point, ready for directions. It suits trailheads, event venues, meeting points, delivery instructions and anywhere a street address is ambiguous.

Enter the coordinates as decimal degrees, latitude first, such as 51.5007, -0.1246. You can copy them from any map app by long-pressing a spot. The code is built in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server, and nothing is saved between visits.

It is a static code: the content is encoded in the pattern itself, so it never expires, has no scan limit, and needs no account.

Questions

Can I enter a street address instead?

Use coordinates. A geo link is a pair of numbers, and map apps read that far more reliably than an address in text. Find the spot on a map, copy its coordinates, and paste them in.

Which map app opens?

The phone’s default: Apple Maps on iPhone, Google Maps on most Android phones. The geo link is a standard both understand.

How precise are the coordinates?

Four decimal places put the pin within about ten metres. Five or six are plenty for a doorway.
